NARS will be releasing their newly formulated highlighting powders this month. These highlighters have a "seamless glow technology" designed to blend easily into the skin giving either a subtle fresh glow or can be built up to an intense shine. Most of the colors I believe already exist in the line but now will be available in this new finely milled powder highlight formulation.
From first swatch, I was very underwhelmed to be honest. Just getting the below swatches on my arm took me rubbing my finger hard into the powder to get enough pigmentation to show up on camera. However, when I dipped my brush in to dust some on my cheekbones - holy cow! That is where the color immediately popped!
Left to right: Albatross, Fort de France, Capri, Ibiza, St. Barths, Maldives |
The trick for me was to take just the smallest amount of powder on a fluffy brush and dab it gently along my cheekbones. When I tried to rub it in, the shine intensified and was a bit too glowy for my daily makeup look. However, both Albatross and Capri looked beautiful when using the smallest amount and disappeared into the skin without emphasizing texture. I think there would definitely be a shade in this launch for everyone. The darker shades were too much color and shimmer for me to wear as cheek colors so I wore them on my eyes instead and loved how they looked!
I definitely think these are worth trying and they launched at the perfect time - right before spring when everyone will be wanting to lighten up their makeup and add a bit of a glow. My tip for wearing them for daytime is to dab rather than rub them onto the cheekbone because the shine develops as they are blended into the skin. Stay tuned for their launch in mid-March on the NARS website and early April in Sephora.

what brush is that? and do you recommend it for powder highlighters?
ReplyDeleteIt's a Kevyn Aucoin brush. It's ok, but nothing amazing. I have an old MAC brush that I actually use and love but it's discontinued. :( I haven't found one that I like as much.
