My First Time Trying Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation + Swatches of Every Single Shade!
I know this is hard to believe given that I blog about beauty for a living, but I have never tried the iconic cult classic Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. It's been around forever and I remember seeing it at the counter when my mom would go there to pick up whatever item she needed (she was always an Estee Lauder wearer), but for some reason I managed to overlook it. Recently Estee Lauder sent me a press package with my shades of the Double Wear Foundation as well as samples of every other shade and I couldn't wait to test it out.
I found that I am a mix of 1N1 and 1N2 though I think as winter comes I could simply go with only 1N1. The formula took a bit of playing around to see how best it would wear and how much to apply since it is a thicker formula. At first I was heavy handed with it and by the end of the day my face looked like I was wearing a mask. It was then that I determined less is more with this foundation. It can cover everything I need it to with only a sheer amount and smooths out almost every imperfection giving a flawless velvety finish. By mid-day, I did notice some oil beginning to break through so I added my favorite setting powder the following day and that helped keep my skin matte through most of the heat and humidity. For my combination skin, I think this formula will be better in the cooler months since I did get a bit shiny when wearing, but it stayed put for almost 10 hours straight! For those with dry skin, this would be a great option but oily skin types may need a mattifying powder or primer to help control shine. Since I received a sample of every single shade, I thought I would swatch them all in case you need help finding the shade that works best for you. I would love to know your thoughts on this foundation and if you have used it! It is definitely for someone that wants more coverage though only using a few dots to cover the entire face allows for a more sheer application. I finally feel like I am part of some unspoken club now that I have tried the Double Wear Foundation and definitely know why it has been a classic for so long.
I am extremely fortunate to have learned about Estée Lauder makeup at an early age. I’m almost 42 and I have been using Estée Lauder faithfully since I was 20. I have the misfortune of discoid lupus which often causes permanent and initially, severely dark scarring. Reluctantly, at the advice of my mom, whom (for context) is very fair skinned) recommended o try Lancôme or Estée Lauder. I initially attempted Lancôme foundation. I returned to her annoyed and reminded her that I told her there would be nothing in MY shade. She encouraged me to try Estée Lauder instead. Imagine that in 1998, EL was already pioneering by offering shades for dark women (I’m a mocha girl). Innovative-right? I started with the DW formula and eventually switched to Double Matte since Rich Ginger was a closer match to my skin tone. The makeup was priced at around 32.00 after taxes, which was a lot for a college student. But, my Double Matte was flawless and It was worth every penny. I received compliments for years on my complexion as a result of it. It was easily layered and I never required concealer. It held up through day long summer cookouts in Georgia and Spring humidity in Florida. I never had to think about it. I’m still devastated over it’s discontinuation. I’ve been back to DW for about six years now and although it doesn’t it’s not as full coverage as it once was, it’s still a wonderful product with an even broader shade range than before. It’s still expensive, but it’s also still worth it. It continues to give me the confidence that I desire and for that, I will continue to be loyal to this brand.
Love Estee Lauder Double wear, I am a makeup junkie. Trust me when I say I have worn every foundation imaginable. I always come back to this foundation. This is definitely full coverage, and a little goes a long way. I have combination skin and it works well for me. I use a matte primer in my red-zone area only. I really don't like using a powder on top, kinda takes away from the finish to me. Probably the most important thing about this formula is that there's very little oxidation which for me is a deal breaker. I am 55yrs old and have been using Estee Lauder Double Wear for about 20yrs. It's still top of the line in my opinion compared to all the latest selections of foundation.
I have used it. I can confirm it is the best. My shade is 5N1 Rich Ginger. So I am darker, but the shade range is amazing. It can be drying ao I mix it with a primer with SPF.
