Silk And Denim

When I first ordered these Equipment shorts, they felt like pajamas. Actual flimsy-flamsy silk pajama shorts that when you hold them up to the light become 100% transparent. I showed them to my mom, who was up visiting at the time, and she was as confused as I was as to how one wears these thin, yet ridiculously comfortable shorts in public. And then I put them on and it was like magic! They were not even remotely see through nor did the material seem too thin. They run a bit big so I recommend sizing down but nonetheless they feel easy and effortless. And nothing pairs better with leopard than denim, right? I'm convinced that no one does denim or chambray quite like Madewell, except maybe it's sister store J.Crew. I have quite a few denim/chambray long sleeve button downs that make their rounds in my wardrobe but this is my first sleeveless and has probably been my most worn shirt this summer. It may rival my L.L Bean tote, shown above, for the most worn item. I bought this tote in hunter green and camouflage a few years back and I swear it has been a lifesaver. I carry it everywhere - to work, on vacation, to the beach and it holds everything. The only down side is that it doesn't have any inside pockets so I end up carrying tons of little clutches inside to help divide everything up neatly. Who's a tad OCD? Certainly NOT me.

Have you entered my Sunday Riley skincare giveaway??!! It's a good one, trust me. Enter here!

Bits and Pieces: Spring Blouse With Boyfriend Jeans

Sometimes I want to thank the person who brought back the boyfriend jean trend, if for no other reason than making eating comfortable. It gives a bit of a break from skinny jeans where salads are inevitable. And another silk blouse from Equipment, you may be asking? Yup. The silk is unbelievable to the touch and they fall so effortlessly on the body. A tad on the pricey side, but they do go on sale often and that is when I pounce. A little secret I also have is I pin all my favorite items from around the web to this pinboard, and then go back and check them regularly to see when they are discounted. I find so many great things when I am online shopping, yet always forget what I actually want to buy when the time comes. So this pinboard (I have one for beauty too) makes shopping so much easier. And I can visually see what is missing from my closet as well, and pin some pieces I need to help round it out more. A tad on the hyper-organized side? Yes, but it works for me. (and maybe for you too - a little over organization never hurt anyone)

Bits and Pieces: Leopard And Leather

photo leopard.jpg Just looking at this white blazer gives me anxiety because I stress about getting it dirty, but I love how crisp and clean it looks. I think a white blazer is an essential piece in a wardrobe - and when I stumbled across this one on the Nordstrom site, and saw it was under $100 - I felt even better about adding it to my closet. I don't mind splurging on a great piece of clothing here and there but with light colored items, I always hesitate. I wear way too much makeup to not have an accident, and don't want to feel uncomfortable all day long trying not to get myself dirty. Leopard on the other hand is always a good decision, and with this Equipment blouse it was a no brainer. I love the longer back that works well when untucked, and the draping it gives when tucked in is perfect and feminine. There is a reason these blouses are such a cult classic.

Bits and Pieces: Checkered And Casual

Because I spend so much of my clothing budget on work-place friendly attire, I often forget about my off time/weekend wear. Pajama pants are not acceptable outside of my apartment door, no matter how tired I may be.  So I have made an effort over the past few months to pick up pieces here and there that can be thrown together to make a fun casual outfit, but is still ridiculously comfortable.  In other words, a fun sweater, distressed skinny jeans and the most comfortable boots imaginable.  I repurpose this sweater and boots for work all the time, so in my mind I'm driving down the cost per wear which makes the budget-er/fiscally responsible me (she is in there surprisingly) very happy.  And yes, these Rag & Bone Newbury boots are as comfortable as everyone says.  I thought it was a myth but frankly they are so lightweight, it's like walking on air.  A total splurge but worth every penny.  Just call me the enabler.  Sorry I'm not sorry.

What Should Be In My Closet

The holidays are over and we are all probably shopped out, right? Hahahahahaha - I almost typed that without laughing - almost.  Gift cards are burning a hole in pockets and the boring days of January seem to demand a treat for ourselves.  Or a few treats.  Though spring seems to be just around the corner, here in NYC it does not get warm until Memorial Day so cold weather clothing is still necessary.  Here are a few great finds I gathered from around the web this past week:
