Bits and Pieces: Patterns In The Tropics

It pains me just a little to write this post, since I am now back from vacation and seeing these photos is like a punch to the gut. TAKE ME BACK!!!! If you didn't know, I recently went to Grand Cayman for a few days and it was delightful. We swam with sting rays, snorkeled the Barrier Reef, ate more than we should and lounged on the beach every single day. It was glorious. But I have to say that my favorite part of visiting warm weather vacation spots is the chance to wear every brightly colored item in my wardrobe. I recently purchased this DVF skirt and felt it was perfect for my trip. I wore it to dinner on an island that required transportation by boat and it was so comfortable and easy. Lightweight enough to keep me cool but heavy enough so as not to succumb to a wardrobe malfunction from all the wind on the boat. And of course these sandals look familiar because they have been a staple in my summer wardrobe since I bought them last year, and I am slowly collecting as many pairs of Loeffler Randall shoes as I can! I have this pair as well and love them! But the only thing they can't do is transport me back to Grand Cayman if I click my heels together. Ugh, reality is so harsh.

Bits and Pieces: Spotted in Shorts

Don't you just wanna brush that hair away from my cheek? I do.

Pale but breezy. No other way to be.

I was undecided on shorts for quite a long time.  I am super pale, have short legs (ugh, need I go on?) and find them very hard to look "put together" when wearing.  But then every summer,  Mother Nature gets really mad at New Yorkers for not recycling enough or jay walking during rush hour or something, and hits us with heat that makes you swear that you will compost for the rest of your life to make it go away.  It's in these moments, while contemplating the fate of my job if adorned in a bathing suit at my desk Monday morning, that I storm the racks at my closest retailer in a desperate search for.....shorts.  Will this be the year of the shorts for yours truly?  Well I am not convinced that my entire wardrobe will migrate away from pants and skirts, but I am in possession of more pairs this year than ever before.  This could just be my fashion addiction you may say, but who asked you anyways?  My legs needed to breathe and these polka dot pretties from Madewell fit the bill perfectly.  Throw on a basic tank and neon belt, and we are in business.  The business of being cool - in all senses of the word.

Bits and Pieces: Spring/Fall Mash Up

It's officially spring, but temps here in the Big Apple are still preventing my spring wardrobe from making its full appearance.  Enter the above get up.  A fall palette of colors and a warm jacket coexisting among the sunshine and blossoming trees.  It's a wardrobe oxymoron I tell ya.  But I was happy to have a reason to debut my recent shopping haul purchases and take them for a test drive.  Both the jeans and flats are keepers and have quickly been put into regular wardrobe rotation - which is having me contemplate acquiring other colors.  I'm a "collector" - that's fashion justification at its best.
