Bits and Pieces: Maxi Love

I am not sure what I am more proud to show off, my great maxi dress or my great hair day.  Well either way, they are both the feature of this post - and when you have petulant and uncompromising curly hair that you must tame every morning, you appreciate the rare moments when it actually behaves.  Maybe it was influenced by the dress and felt it needed to be on its best behavior.  I certainly was.  There are certain outfits in my wardrobe that when worn, make me act a little bit better.  I said a little not a lot - a leopard can't ever really change their spots now, can they?  I feel at my utmost summery-est when wearing this Kenneth Cole maxi dress.  Though it does have a slightly more formal feel then my other maxi number, I still enjoy wearing it for work or play as it is probably one of the most comfortable dresses I own.  Now if you could reach through the computer screen and touch the fabric, you would find it to be a silky Lycra texture with some weight to it.  It hangs at just the right length so that it does not dust along the streets as  I walk - and in NYC that is a necessity as it may just become radioactive after coming in contact with all the street filth.  A sandal is still my shoe choice for the maxi dress - as I do find it odd when paired with heels, unless the dress is too long for you and your heels give you what the good Lord couldn't  - a few extra inches.   I felt this was a proper farewell outfit to Summer and all the good times we had.  Wait - who am I kidding - Summer was sorta bitchy and waged war on my hair with all her humidity antics.  But nonetheless - I appreciate the opportunity to parade around in numbers like these.  So I guess I can call a truce with Summer - it's never good to hold a fashion grudge.

Bits and Pieces: Spotted in Shorts

Don't you just wanna brush that hair away from my cheek? I do.

Pale but breezy. No other way to be.

I was undecided on shorts for quite a long time.  I am super pale, have short legs (ugh, need I go on?) and find them very hard to look "put together" when wearing.  But then every summer,  Mother Nature gets really mad at New Yorkers for not recycling enough or jay walking during rush hour or something, and hits us with heat that makes you swear that you will compost for the rest of your life to make it go away.  It's in these moments, while contemplating the fate of my job if adorned in a bathing suit at my desk Monday morning, that I storm the racks at my closest retailer in a desperate search for.....shorts.  Will this be the year of the shorts for yours truly?  Well I am not convinced that my entire wardrobe will migrate away from pants and skirts, but I am in possession of more pairs this year than ever before.  This could just be my fashion addiction you may say, but who asked you anyways?  My legs needed to breathe and these polka dot pretties from Madewell fit the bill perfectly.  Throw on a basic tank and neon belt, and we are in business.  The business of being cool - in all senses of the word.

Friday Fancies: Neon and Animal Summer Sandal

Mixing colors and prints is the official anthem of summer - and these sandals should be the honorary representative.  What better way to jazz up a maxi dress or micro mini shorts than with neon and animal print together - on your foot nonetheless.  Being the neutral gal that I am, I'm the Switzerland of fashion for all you new readers, one might think I would scoff at such a mish-mash offering for my feet.  But just the opposite - I find that having a party south of my ankles, especially in the name of summer lovin', is not only suggested but rather mandated.  Blame it on the heat and humidity if you must - but I would wear these proudly and loudly.
