Beauty Bits: Holiday Nail Colors

photo HolidayNailColors.jpg Nothing will put you in the holiday spirit quicker than a festive holiday mani - a red holiday mani to be exact.  Bright, classic, glittery or dark - red nails are the perfect finishing touch for this time of year.  As one who doesn't always gravitate towards these shades normally, I find myself reaching for them over and over during the Christmas season.  I searched through my collection to pull out some of my favorite shades that are sure to get your fingers (and probably you too) in the spirit.  If I have worn them in a previous Sunday Nailday post, I will link to the swatch. photo HolidayNailColors1.jpg

A Bit Obsessed: October 2013 Beauty Favorites

October Beauty Favorites A monthly favorites with this many bold lip choices?  It's shocking, truly.  But I can't help myself.  I have found so many great bright shades that I am reaching for them almost every day.  Of course I balanced this out with two neutral eye shadows, to make sure you guys still knew it was me.  And a few nail products and one skincare product also made the cut.  Here's the rundown:

1. Neal's Yard Remedies Organic Eye Makeup Remover (c/o) - Rarely do I use eye makeup remover, since my preferred method of cleansing each night is with a cleansing oil, but after giving this one a go, I was happy to welcome it back into my regimen.  More than anything, I found this remover to be so soothing and I would actually soak a cotton pad in the solution and hold them on my eyes for approximately 15-30 seconds.  Not only did it remove the makeup, but it refreshed and nourished the eye area.
2. Bite Beauty Lipstick in Fig (swatch above)- How many Bite Beauty lip products can one girl acquire?  I'm on a personal mission to find out.  Pepper was a previous favorite (see post here), and now Fig - a subtle pink shade that wears beautifully and makes my lips actually feel better after using it.
3. NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in Damned (swatch above) - The name sounds a bit daunting but this deep berry shade is the epitome of an easy to wear vampy lip.  I know, that almost sounds like an oxymoron, but trust me - whether worn as a stain or more opaque, it is a must for fall/winter.
4. Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream in Sancerre (swatch above) - Another Bite lip product?????  I wasn't kidding about this brand - I am collecting them all.  A matte, full coverage lip that delivers bold color not for the faint of heart.  I blot with a tissue after, but the color is intense and lasts all. day. long.  Just try to remove it.  Seriously.  Try.
5. Guerlain Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadows in Les Fumes (swatch above) - I find myself becoming more and more drawn to Guerlain, and with each product I try, my love for the brand is solidified more.  I have heard people rave about these eye palettes before, and now I know why - look at those swatches!  Butter soft, richly pigmented and so easy to blend - I am a bit mad at myself I didn't discover them sooner.  Now that I know better, I will do better (AKA buy more).
6. NARS Eye shadow in Edie - Alright, I got this color just a few months ago, and I swear I am going to hit pan any day.  I use it THAT much.  It is the perfect base shade - and frankly, while it may not be as exciting of a color as some, it is soooo necessary. Not too shimmery, not too matte - it's just right.
7. Julep Polymer Top Coat - I'm that girl that goes to the nail salon with her own polishes - yes I am.  But ever since discovering this top coat, my manicures have never lasted longer.  The finish is much like a gel polish, and dries faster than anything I have ever seen.  And chipping? What chipping?  I have to reallllly, try to chip my manicure when wearing this top coat.  I already have a back up for when I finish.  To be without would be a tragedy.
8. Butter London Wallis - I can't lie, I have A LOT of nail polish.  But in my defense, I do a weekly blog feature so......so there.  With all that polish, I tend to forget about shades that I have used and loved, and recently I stumbled across this Butter London shade again and was reminded of why I bought it in the first place.  So unique, so different - it is truly one of my favorite nail color of all time.  A little bit grungy, a little bit glam - here is a swatch to convince you.  See???  Amazing.

Beauty Bits: Julep - To Nails and Beyond

Six of my favorite Julep polishes - (from left to right) - Kim, Meryl, January, Claire, Alicia, Alyson
My love for Julep nail products knows no boundaries - I subscribe to their Maven membership program, have amassed more colors than any normal person may need, and wear one of their colors practically every week as evidenced on my Sunday Nailday posts.  Their polishes dry in just a few minutes, wear forever without chipping and go on so flawlessly that some colors only need one coat - did I blow your mind?  I know, mine too.  But as if their nail products were not already something to blog about (like I need a reason), they have recently been releasing other beauty products that are  just as blog post-worthy.  Most are nail-centric accoutrements to their stellar polish line, however they have been coloring outside the lines recently with non-nail related beauty products.  Again - mind blown.  You may need to sit down for the rest of this.
Nail accoutrements (from left to right): The Best Pedi Prep EverConditioning Nail Polish Remover, Quick Dry Polish Drops c/o, Cuticle Oil c/o, Reveal Nail Strengthening Serum c/o, Glass Nail File c/o
I have always been a simplistic one when it has come to my nail maintenance.  Shocking, I know since my makeup routine is the polar opposite.  My dexterity at doing my own nails is what has always held me back.  Why on earth did my parents push me to practice piano when the real value was in learning how to do your own nails?!  Shaky hands does not a good polisher make. With my new found appreciation,  I now find value in the above products - quick dry polish drops for when deciding to change my polish 2 minutes before leaving, or cuticle oil conveniently packaged in a sublimely easy roller ball applicator.  The latter necessary for me now because great cuticles are a sign of a proper upbringing, right? No?  Well it should be.  And when creativity has escaped the efforts to name a product - give it the most obvious name possible - The Best Pedi Prep Ever.  And it is, hands down.  Removing that stubborn red or black nail polish I so recklessly wear, is no longer the bane of my existence.  This polish remover tackles the task head on, and my fingers are salvaged in the process.  Julep has every aspect of my hands, fingers, feet and toes completely covered.  How nice.
American Beauty Volumizing Mascara, Daylight Defense Lip Balm, Daylight Defense for Hand and Face
As if the nail products were not enough for this emerging brand, they have begun dipping their toes into the makeup/skincare pool.  And so far - I am loving every endeavor!  You may remember my summertime post where I waxed poetically about my sunscreen necessities for keeping my skin as pale as ghostly possible - well, this Daylight Defense for Hands and Face was top on my list.  With a texture that melts into the skin, and a delicious citrus-orange scent, it became the only sunscreen I wore all summer long.  While the sunscreen was busy blowing my mind, you may think that a chapstick could hardly even make it on my radar.  But your thinking would be wrong.  I do not discriminate when it comes to anything beauty - no matter how small or chapsticky.  Applying this daily would be an understatement since I apply it ALL day, every day.  It is one of the only lip moisturizers I have found that doesn't make my lips peels. Hallelujah.  But my sermon isn't over until I discuss their newest beauty tangent - the American Beauty Volumizing Mascara.  Full, lush lashes is a mediocre description.  The product actually has fibers that attach to the lash and extend it out, almost to my hairline frankly, making people actually have to search to find my eyes through my lashes.  I apologize for the extra work.  But what I will not apologize for is my ridiculously long, love letter to Julep products.  When you are in love, you just want to tell everyone.  So goes this post.  I heart you, Julep.

And if you are not already in love with them after my praise-singing (maybe you didn't read that the mascara touched my hairline - hairline, people! Hair. Line.), then maybe you need to try it for yourself.  Click here to join their Maven program.  And then write ME a love letter once YOU fall in love.

Beauty Bits: Keeping the Pale

Pale is in.  Or making a comeback.  Or poised to make a comeback.  Or perhaps I want to make myself feel better.  Fine - being tan is awesome.  It makes you look thinner, your skin looks smoother and wearing bright lipstick is a rite of passage.  But I don't tan, I splotch.  Splotch is the opposite of looking thinner, skin looking smoother and is an inappropriate palette for a bright lipstick.  So really, I have no choice - hence pale is the color du jour.  And to preserve the pale and stave off the splotch, I turn to the above products for rescue.  I have it all covered and multiple times over - face, body, lips, repeat.  The only body part that I do not shield from the sun using a cosmetic product (gasp) is my hair.  Is hair a body part?  Well - let's pretend it is for this post.  My hair is normally hidden, adorably so, under a hat - fedora not floppy (the subway ain't the kentucky derby, ya feel me?).  The key to my casper like appearance is layering - a body lotion with SPF to moisturize but then a spray for when a mobile touch up is needed.  For the face, I run from the multiple choices in favor of one product that can protect and hydrate.  Often I finish the face with a foundation, tinted moisturizer or powder that also has SPF, but I can ramble on about that another time.  Let's stick to the matter at hand.  And let's get a little intro on each product, shall we?

1. Dior Lip Glow with SPF - this is a clear lip balm that enhances the natural color of your lips, with
    SPF. Neat.
2. Olay All Day Moisturizer SPF 15 - oldie but a goodie. SUPER lightweight and all around good
     guy.
3. Julep Daylight Defense - I professed my love for this in my June favorites - it smells like oranges,
melts right into the skin and goes great under makeup.
4. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock - great mobile product and beach necessity.  Not
super sticky like some I have tried.
5. Kiehl's Creme De Corps Lightweight Body Lotion with SPF - this is part of their iconic Creme de
Corps line so you know it's bound to be good.  And it is.
6. Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF - another alternative to a day time moisturizer under
makeup.  Lightweight, blends easily, feels good on skin, blah, blah, blah.  Just buy it.

Weekend Delivery

A package for me????  Heck yeah there is!  I received my monthly Julep Maven box and I thought I would share it with all of you.  You. are. welcome. This month the theme was "Fourth of July" so the colors were quite festive in red (America), white (Kate) and blue (Daphne), with a bonus polish being in a multi-colored glitter (Mila).  If you are unfamiliar with the program, it is a membership program that costs $19.99/month.  Each month you receive the newest colors and any other new beauty products they are promoting.  The box is normally valued at over $40 - so it is a great deal!  If you are a nail polish junkie like moi, then you need to get a membership like, yesterday.  Stay tuned for the next few weeks to see these buggers on my fingers for my Sunday Nailday posts.  Happy Saturday!
